Grade Seven/Eight

Teacher - Lorne Hustak

  • The Grade 7 and 8 timetable and teacher assignments will be given out in the first week of school in the fall.
  • The students will receive program outlines and evaluation criteria for the various classes. These outlines will be in their binders.

Opportunities to Learn in Grade 7 and 8

Christian Teaching

  • Christian Teaching The Christian Perspective is integrated in all subject areas in addition to daily devotions, prayer time, chapel, and Bible classes.

Technology

  • Computer use is integrated into the regular academic classes. Students will work on computer related assignments or projects at home. in the classroom, or in the computer lab.

Homework

  • Students in Grade 7 and 8 are expected to do an average of 3-5 hours of study at home each week. Agendas will be used daily and are expected to be signed on a weekly basis. Late assignments will recieve deducted marks. Parents and students may also check the school website. (medhatchristianschool.com)

Evaluation

In general:

  • 40% for daily assignments
  • 35% for exams
  • 25% for projects

Final Exams

  • Final exams are worth 25% of the student final grade.

Interviews

  • Student/ parent/ teacher interviews take place in November and March.
    • It is a time for reflection and goal setting.

Lockers

  • Students are expected to keep their lockers organized and tidy. Locks are provided by the school. If a lock is lost, students will need to pay $5 for a new one.

Daily PE Classes

  • The Department of Education has implemented 30 minutes of daily PE instruction for K-9 students.
  • Students need to have a change of clothes for PE class. (t-shirt, gym shorts or sweats, and a pair of gym shoes - not skater shoes) There are lockers in the washroom for the Junior High students.
  • If a student is unable to participate in PE, the student will need to bring a note from home.

Extracurricular Sports

(We are part of the Medicine Hat Junior High Athletic Association.)

  • Volleyball season- September to early November
  • Basketball season- November to March
  • Badminton season- March to April
  • Track and Field season-April to May

Educational Field Trips

  • Gr. 4-9 Ski trip to Hidden Valley is January
  • Gr. 7 and 8 class day trip to Calgary in June 2012 (Calgary Zoo, Mustard Seed Street Ministry, Dome Theatre at Science Centre, and supper at Sunridge Mall)
  • Gr. 7 and 8 class day trip to Cyress Hills in June, 2012 (canoeing, hiking, beach volleyball, mini-golf, and a wiener roast supper)
