Kindergarten

Teacher - Mrs. Shelly Gader

As a new adventure begins for students entering Kindergarten, Mrs. Gader feels it is important to make the transition from home to school for each student by forming a partnership with parents. The Bible is integrated into all aspects of the students learning and each day is filled with activites such as circle time, centres, games, music, crafts, sharing time, stories, and fine motor skills. Field trips are seen as a way to reinforce concepts as well as, introduce students to new and exciting things in God's wonderful world. In Kindergarten there is extra support for learning, which includes special needs programming, early literacy assistance and a speech pathologist.

What should my children know for Kindergarten?

These are just a few ways to make the transition into Kindergarten a little smoother.

First and foremost READ, READ, and READ. Children love to be read to! Then help them to...

  • Print their name as follows; capital for the first letter, lower case for the subsequent letters
  • Learn safety information
  • Full name and parent's names
  • Phone number
  • Learn to use and care for scissors, glue and pencils
  • Address-house number, street and city. If from out of town, the township location
  • Learn birth date-month, day, year
  • Learn to dress and undress themselves; zippers, buttons, laces, snaps etc.
  • Learn to put away items they have used.

Through games, casual conversation, singing and observing the word God has created, developed recognition of:

  • Colours
  • Shapes
  • Numbers 1-10
  • Similarities and differences
  • Patterning
  • Opposites
  • Letters and letter sounds in their own names and those in family and friends names
  • Rhyming words and pictures
  • Letters/letter sounds
