The Grade 5 classroom successfully completed a challenging Westward migration in the summer of '07, something which classroom teacher Mrs. Stigter acknowledges as being of benefit to more than just her own students.
"The Junior High music classes are enjoying a greater degree of sound-proofing in what was our classroom last year," she explains, "and the Grade 3's are creating beautiful art projects that fill the windows facing the main foyer of the school. It was a lot of work to switch two classrooms around, but we are enjoying the end result very much!"
The Grade 5's have taken the 30 second walk down the hall to the main foyer several times this year, and for more than general assemblies or Chapel gatherings. "This year's class is very much into drama productions," Mrs. Stigter enthuses. "Their performance of Baby Talk for the primary grades was truly amazing! As well, our Christmas program this year was entitled "Christmas around the world". The Grade 5's truly put everything they had into their skit and song about being in a tropical South African climate for Christmas. It was a highlight for all of us to imagine that we were celebrating the birthday of our Saviour in the season of summer in another land."
Not that the snow puts a damper on the students' enthusiasm for good old-fashioned outdoor fun; snow forts are a huge part of the recess activities for the Grade 5's. "Winter is also when we look forward to introducing skating into the Phys.Ed program," Mrs. Stigter commented. "It's a unique opportunity for students, teachers and parents to all get out on the ice together and have fun."
The Stigter family of six has enjoyed a restful and quiet Christmas at home this year. From their family to yours, and from all the Grade 5's, a blessed and purpose-filled New Year!
