It has been an honour to have taught at MHCS since 1991. I have my Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta, where I focused on Special Education and Early Literacy. I love teaching and watching children grow and develop as young Christian students. I live on a ranch by Elkwater, we have, two children, two horses, two dogs, three cats, cattle and unwanted skunks. As a family we enjoy skiing, camping, biking, and spending time together. I enjoy pulling weeds in my garden because it allows uninterrupted alone time with God.

A typical day in my classroom:

Devotions

We start our day off on the right foot by spending ten to twenty minutes with devotions and talking to God.

Language Arts

Read! Read! Read! Our day is primarily filled with learning how to read.  Phonics, spelling, writing, and sharing are a few other integral parts of grade one.

Bible

I find that Bible is generally students’ favorite subject.  We enjoy learning from the Bible all the wonderful treasure God left for us.  I enjoy the storytelling and acting out of Bible lessons.

Math

Everyday students will learning math techniques that include adding, subtracting, numbers to 100, counting money, telling time, measuring creating patterns, problem solving, and much more.

Science

Science is my second favorite subject to teach.  Topics covered in grade one are creating color, seasonal changed, building things, senses, and needs of animals and plants.

Social

The grade one Social is split into two main topics.

1)      My World:  Home, school and community.

2)      Moving Forward With the Past:  My family, my history, and my community.
